The Global Industry Hub’s purpose is to catalyze the acceleration of industrial decarbonization, and it has now played a part in the creation of a landmark global initiative to mobilize large-scale investments for green industrialization projects across emerging markets and developing economies.
The Industrial Transition Investment Platform (ITIP) is a collaboration between the Global Industry Hub, the United Nations Industry Development Organization (UNIDO), and the governments of the United Kingdom and Germany. It will help establish country and regional industrial decarbonization hubs that develop a pipeline of investment-ready projects in high-emitting sectors, mobilize public and private investments, minimize the risks of locking in carbon-intensive infrastructure, and support the deployment of low-emissions technologies at the necessary speed and scale.
The ITIP can build pathways to green industrialization by enhancing competitiveness, resilience, energy security and long-term economic growth. One of the most important aspects of ID Hubs is engaging local organizations to navigate the domestic landscape effectively and deliver meaningful impact. The ITIP will work closely with local stakeholders to ensure project development is responding to existing industry initiatives, on-the-ground realities, and the political-economy dynamics that shape technical implementation.
Globally, as the focus continues to shift from ambition to implementation, and with industrial policy being put at the centre of economic and geopolitical decision-making, vehicles such as the the ITIP can serve as a blueprint for multilateral collaboration on industrial development and an exemplar of the role philanthropy can play in supporting a resilient and prosperous future.
